Mashing- In our Mash/Lauter tun, motorized rakes mix the grist with hot water. The mixture is allowed to steep for a little under an hour. As it steeps, enzymes in the malt will convert the starches within the malted barley to simple sugars. What is created is a sweet sticky liquid called wort.
